An Introduction of Eyeglasses Frame Materials
Eyeglasses frames can be made from a huge variety of materials. While most of them falls into the categories of plastic and metal, there are always some exceptions that can be classified as unusual frame materials. Plastic frames do have some drawbacks. Compared with metal frames, they are easier to break. Aging and exposure to sunlight can decrease their strength slightly, and color can fade over time.
Metal
Having been used for everything from the Gemini and Apollo space capsules to medical implants such as heart valves, titanium is a silver-gray metal that’s lightweight, durable, strong and corrosion-resistant. Titanium eyewear can be produced in a variety of colors for a clean, modern look and they’re hypoallergenic. A lower-cost alternative to titanium is Beryllium, a steel-gray metal material. It’s also corrosion resistant, making it an excellent choice for wearers who have high skin acidity or need to spend a good amount of time in or around salt water. Another alternative to titanium is stainless steel, which is lightweight, low toxic and fairly strong. Frames made from Stainless steel are readily available and reasonably priced, a wonderful choice for anyone.
