Caring for Metal Platform Beds
Metal platform beds are an excellent investment, especially when you take the time to care for them. Like any type of bed, keeping these clean and dry is critical to maintaining them over a long period. In most situations, basic care is all that is necessary to keep your bed looking good for a long time. In some situations, you may need to have professional work done on it, such as when there is significant structural damage. However, the quality of most of these, purchased from a reputable manufacturer, is high enough that the beds can handle a great deal of stress before showing any signs of a problem.
Cleaning and Regular Care
When it comes to wrought iron beds or other types of these, including platform beds, one should focus on daily and regular cleaning and care. These steps will help you.
Keep the metal beds dry as much as possible. Of course, water damage to mattresses is always a bad idea, but many people forget that the actual metal bed frame is also important to keep dry. If there are spills or accidents, dry the bed completely and thoroughly.
Should the bed need to be washed off, use a damp, non abrasive cloth to wash it. You can use a mild dish detergent to help with stains or grime. After washing a small area of the bed, dry thoroughly with another towel. It is very important to make sure the bed is dry before replacing a mattress or other fabric on it.
Dusting your bed is also important. It will help the paint and metal to withstand the test of time better, and keeps your bed looking great. In most situations, these are the only steps you will need to take when it comes to caring for metal platform beds.
More Extensive Help
Depending on the type of platform bed you have, it may be necessary to maintain the material properly to avoid any rust build up. Rust will not occur unless the metal is exposed to water for any length of time. Keep the humidity in your bedroom low. Maintain the overall cleanliness of the space, too. If you do have rust on your bed (which is rare since most products do not rust), you may be able to sand and repair the bed through the use of a rust protection paint job.
In situations where the metal is bent or broken, have a professional work on fixing the bed. In some situations, it may be a good idea to do some light welding, by a professional, to repair worn or broken pieces. Again, this is the rare case.
Overall, metal platform beds need very little attention in this manner. With proper cleaning and care, you will find that these beds can last for many years and still look brand new. Keep in mind that the more time you put into maintaining your bed, the more life it will have in great condition.
