Online Shopping in a Nationwide Chain of Online Retail Stores with a Network Marketing Program
There are 2 models that I believe are about to change because it was only a matter of time before they had to change in order to continue to grow. The online shopping model was set up and designed to make money for the Amazons of the world. The network marketing model was designed and set up, but to this point, has only really made money for those at the highest levels. I believe both models are about to be reconfigured to push down the income from both models, to the average consumer.
Who hasn’t shopped online or at least been approach about a network marketing program of some kind. Both have become ingrained into the fabric of our culture and are fighting for their very survival under the surface right now. Online shopping did over 150 billion dollars in the U.S. last year. Direct marketing generated over 100 billion dollars in product and information sales globally last year. Two extremely powerful forces in our economy today that have, to this point, been able to continue to grow in these difficult economic times.
Network marketing has become predatory and overly hyped and shamelessly promoted by truth stretching. Just to survive and be able to grow. Is it any wonder people now have to be “sold” on getting involved with another exotic program that has another exotic product. The industry has morphed into something that goes against the core principles that made the concept so appealing when it was first introduced some 40 years ago. Promoting through truthfully sharing your opinion and serving others in a way that allows them to better themselves by learning to help and share with others. I really don’t believe a model that progressively works more from “capture and coerce” has any reasonable chance of continued success long term. In my opinion, this model is in its last days of usefulness. It has served to only ostracized itself from the very people it so desperately wants to attract.
Online shopping has exploded in popularity, and finds itself in a vicious cycle of price reductions in order to try and maintain market share. There are so many online sites promoting products at ever cheaper prices that it’s impossible to generate enough loyalty to get the consumer to stick. The affiliate model was brought in to try and help drive sales and promote customer loyalty. However, the payback to the consumer just wasn’t enough. The expertise required to market your affiliate site to capture enough sales was unattainable to the average person and too costly without the expertise. The same cycle is repeated in the affiliate program as it is in the online shopping model. Too many chasing the same dollar, and too expensive to separate yourself from the crowd that doesn’t have any reason to be loyal. And we all know it’s very crowded out there and who among us feels any particular loyalty.
The only consumer segment I do see this working effectively in is with Apple. They’ve done it with a good value proposition and outstanding customer support. Is it any wonder they’re having the success they are?
That’s why a new model for both industries is absolutely necessary and crying out for change. I believe there is a way to both benefit from this needed change, and be able to actually help this change to happen. Something actually unique and so different that people are attracted to it without being hyped into it. A new model that doesn’t require purchasing something new or exotic. Just applying those same dollars that you would have spent anyhow, to your own benefit.
I’ve watch a couple guys build nothing into something over the last 9 months. I’m impressed with what they have been able to accomplish and pretty excited about what they may be able to do with the program they are now starting to roll out. It’s a new ecommerce shopping platform unlike anything else out there. It combines online shopping with network marketing in a way that nobody else has done before. Both models have been changed and combined into one powerful proposition for the consumer who would like to shop and earn money online. I believe if done right, it does have the potential to change the way we shop and make money. The two guys that are behind this are both very accomplished and experienced in their fields. Ron Loveless of WalMart and Sam’s Club fame. Plus Bob McNulty who started the whole internet shopping revolution with shopping.com.
