What is Hip Hop
Hip hop is more than just a word, phrase, or way of life. Some people don’t realize that there is an actual hip hop world and we are surely in it. Hip hop has been around for basically four decades (since the 70s). Now if you ask any hip hop heads what hip hop is, I’m sure that they can tell you that there are various elements to the culture.
I always realize that people ask the question: What is hip hop? A lot of times because they hear the word “rap” and sometimes they don’t know how to distinguish between rap and hip hop. I would definitely say that there is a difference between rap music and hip hop music. In my opinion, rap music is more of the music side to hip hop.
Hip hop music is integrating the various elements of the hip hop culture into the music. Now you’re probably wondering: What are the hip hop elements? Well, there’s graffiti, music, break dancing, beat boxing, apparel, belief, and overall lifestyle. To sum hip hop up, it is a culture or lifestyle that incorporates all of the elements that I just mentioned. Now, if you don’t know what any of these things are, right now would be the best time to do some further research, but don’t forget to come back to this article. In my eyes, any music artist who makes hip hop music should be considered a hip hop rapper.
I know your probably confused because you’ve grasped the idea that there is a difference between hip hop and rap and you’re probably wondering why people say “hip hop rapper”. You’re probably thinking that this is contradicting what I said earlier, but I disagree if you are thinking this way. So, if anybody ever asks you : what is hip hop, what are you going to tell them?
