How To Read The Birth Chart
HOW TO READ THE BIRTH CHART
In this article, details about reading the birth chart are given. Apart from the role of lagna and lord of lagna, the planets occupying other houses are equally important. At appropriate places, discussion shall be made regarding trick house (inauspicious as they are called) i.e. 6th, 8th and 12th.
The horoscope needs to be judged thoroughly and from all angles and how the position of planets is improved from Navamsha and other Vargas. See also from Chandra lagna and Surya lagna. It is accepted by all the world itself is a great confusion in view of present day scientific development. Astrological principles need to be applied with reference to modern times- whether it is field for individual horoscope or for the national or international events (Mundane Astrology) and even for Horary, ‘ Desh-pal-kala’ must be kept in mind.
Several systems in Astrology give different kinds of Vargas or divisions. Some authors speak of Shadvargas and others rely on 7 Vargas and still some of them rely on 10 Vargas and few of them depend on 16 Vargas. It is true that more detailed version of the horoscope would definitely help the final analysis. This take us to the psychology of the man who himself is a wonder and this conception varies with different individuals and conditions under which one works. Whatever system one follows, what is expected from the astrologer is “well founded prediction” supported by astrological principles.
While reading a chart, the motion of the planets must be kept in mind. The astrologer has to know when a particular planet would be transiting to a particular sign/Nakshatra and what results would normally by given by the planet in a particular sign. For example, what the Sun has to say in Aries to Pisces. In all these positions, results would differ. With this position of planets in mind, the astrologer can predict well.
For giving well-founded predications, the astrologer is expected to be proficient both in Ganit and Phalit. He has to be well acquainted with characteristics of all the sings and specially when they are coming as ‘Rising Sign’ either in lagna or in other Vargas. Since India is a country of various language including the parent language ‘Sanskrit’ the astrologer has to be acquainted with other names of planets and signs, for example, Leo is also called ‘Kantirava’ and ‘Laya’. With regards to forms of the horoscope, most of the astrologer follows either northern form or southern form. In West Bengal side, different forms are used, in western countries, round (circle) from is used. The astrologer is also expected to be aware of these forms and at least he should know the art and technique for converting north India form of horoscope into South Indian from and vice-versa.
While reading the chart, planetary cabinet must be known so that the broad attributes become helpful while giving predictions. Under Astrology, the Sun in King and Moon is Queen (some astrologers term both of them as ‘Rajas’- Kings), but the Moon must be taken as Queen, Mars has been equated as ‘Cimmander in Chief’ (senapathi), Mercury is Prince (Yuva-raja), Jupiter and Venus (both benefics) have been equated as Ministers (Advisers) and Saturn is taken as servant. The concept of ‘servant’ differs from person to person and from time to time. Sometimes, even the employer has to act as servant of his servant-an employer taking the maid servant in his car when she is sitting on back slate.
For a profound knowledge for reading the birth chart, an astrologer is also required to be acquainted with Upgraphas-Gulika (stated to be son of Saturn), Mandi (also Saturn), Yamakantaka, etc. but it has been seen that effects of Gulika and Mandi are normally taken into consideration. These Upgradhas or minor planets have also evil influences on the houses/ signs they occupy. Suppose any one of these evil planets is fund in the 7th house-signification of wife, marital happiness, sexual energy etc. then there are chances for greater misery from those sources, i.e. unpleasantness from these matter.
For reading the birth chart, planetary characteristics of the planets should be well understood by the astrologer. For example, the Sun becomes representative of heat, irritation and gets exalted in Aries in the Nakshatra of Ketu (Aswini). Different results are given when the Sun is in Lagna. Without dwelling on this aspect, it is stated that different worked on Astrology have some differences with regard to delineation of the horoscope as well as of the planets but it is the astrologer who has to deduce the results keeping in view the totally of the horoscope, i.e. strengths and weaknesses of the planets.
The astrologer should also keep in mind the ‘Ayanas’. There are two Ayanas or halves of the year. Uttarayana commerce form the month of Makara and the Sun is considered strong in Uttarayana and the Sun is not considered strong in northern direction (Dakshnayana) commences from Cancer and runs through Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius. In general, the Sun in 10th of the horoscope is considered powerful to give the native necessary authority.
Navamsha lord has also an important say while reading the birth chart. Actually, most of the astrologers do not pay attention to Navamsha chart but some astrologers rely on Navamsha lord of the Navamsha chart. If the lord of the Navamsha, occupied by the lord of 10th from birth, the Sun or the Moon , happens to be the Sun or the Moon, happens to be the Sun, then the person is expected to follow the vocation or profession connected with medicine, water, war, gems or pearls apart from helping gamblers and lovers and ounselling.
