Konark Sun Temple:Sun Temple at Konark in Orissa is a stunning example of Orissa temple architecture. Also known as “black pagoda”, Sun temple was the creation of King Narasimhadev of Eastern Ganga Dynasty. This temple has the shape of a colossal chariot with seven horses and twenty four wheels , carrying the sun god, Surya, across the heavens. This World Heritage Site is also a famous venue for several dance festival.
Khajuraho temples: Khajuraho temples, located at Chahtarpur district in Madhya Pradesh are trully awesome. These temples of medieval period are fine exemplar of architectural brilliance of Chandela dynasty. They are also known as “Kamasutra temples” due to their sensuous and erotic sculptures, carved on the outside walls of the temples. Khajuraho temples are also considered as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Sanchi Stupa:Apart from the marvellous Khajuraho temples, Madhya Pradesh is also blessed with Sanchi Stupa. These surviving relic of Buddhism in India was created by Ashoka, the Great in 3rd century B.C. Located in Raisen district, Sanchi Stupa are also titled as UNESCO World Heritage Site. One unique feature of this stupa is that it has no images of Lord Buddha. Instead various symbols like footprints, wheels, thrones are used to represent Lord Budha.
Tirupati Temple:Tirupati temple is one of the highly revered pilgrimage sites of Hindus in Chittoor district of southern portion of Andhra Pradesh. Lord Venkateshwara is the presiding deity of this ancient temple which is built on a range of Eastern Ghats, called the Seven Hills. Every year thousands of devotees, be it a layman or a celebrity visit this sacred temple to worship Lord Venkateshwara or Srinivasa or Balaji. Often called as “abode of tranquility”, Tirupati temple is bedecked with several doorways, mandapams and shrines.
Sri Meenakshi Temple: The Sri Minakshi Sundaresvara Temple is one of the most visited temple of south India. This pious temple is located at Madurai in Tamil Nadu. Both Minakshi temple and Madurai city originated together. This ancient temple was constructed by the Pandyan King, Kulashekara in between 16th to 18th century. Meenakshi temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Meenakshi.
